Ushuaia is one of the southernmost cities in the world. Placed 2377 km away from Buenos Aires, is the capital city of the province of Tierra del Fuego.
After hosting an exhibition in 2013, Ushuaia was the scenary of the 1st Snow Handball official tournament in the world: the Panamerican Championship.
Uruguay earned gold after winning all their matches followed by host, Argentina, and the team from Paraguay, completing the tournament’s podium.
About this new modality and their hopes, Mario Moccia -President of both the Panamerican Federation and Argentinian Federations- said that “Our gold is to improve Snow Handball and take it to every country in the world that has weather conditions to practise it”.
But Moccia’s dreams do not stop there: “We wish that in ten years we would be talking about Handball at Winter Olympics since we believe our proposal has olympic potential”.
Snow Handball began and it is here to stay. From Argentina to the world and with the promise of repeating year after year. Who knows? Maybe the olympic dream comes true…
Snow Handball…from the end to the world to the world
